Opening from 5pm on Friday 2 September get ready to light the sky as HORIZON IGNITES with a spectacular lantern parade, led by Gubbi Gubbi dance troupe, Sambazzy, Let's Dance Latin Dance School and the Arte Flamenco Dance School, as they weave and shashay from Minchinton Street to Bulcock Street and into Felicity Park, Caloundra. THE PARADE starts at 6pm, so get ready to line the streets, join the conga line or cheer as is passes.
Enjoy a feast of colour and movement featuring flamenco performance, learn a samba and flamenco dance, immerse yourself in the street art, projections, interactive art playshops, stilt walkers, Pom Pom Palace for children who will be making lanterns from 4 to 5:30pm so you can join in the parade, enjoy buskers, roving performers, laneway GARAGE BAR, fine long table dining global food venDORS, artisan stalls and FREE weaving workshops. Check out the stage behind the gallery kicking off with flamenco and Spanish dance followed by local muso's PocketLOVE and AYLA live on stage. The Garage Bar behind the gallery will serve up original tunes by folk singer / songwriter Tobias, who has recently returned home to the Sunshine Coast after releasing his self titled album in Melbourne last July, with singles garnering national radio airplay.
Jaleos Flamenco is a dynamic ensemble that celebrates the passion and grace of flamenco music song and dance. Simone Pope (dancer), Clara Domingo (vocals) and Andrew Veivers (guitar) bring the intricate rhythms, dazzling footwork and raw energy of flamenco together in performances that encompasses both the ancient richness of the traditional and the virtuosity of contemporary flamenco. Jaleos Flamenco is collaborating with Yioda Wilson of the Arte Flamenco Dance School.
Immerse yourself into the world of music, film, words, visual and performance art through The Art of Storytelling in our travelling festival club called The Pod Lounge inflatable venue, presenting a dynamic night of slam poetry, story, music, culture and spoken word starting at 4:45pm with the sweet sounds of Dear Willow.
From 5-7pm the Caloundra Gallery Up Late presents an exhibition and guided floor talk by Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2016 judge Jane Deeth and music by local muso Jai Bevan. Cash bar available.
At 5:30pm join local film-maker Madeline Kennedy on the red carpet at the Caloundra Events Centre with actor's Pete Murray and guests for a free world premier screening of her film debut, Thicker Than Water.
First Coat - Satellite Murals winning artists will be working on their mural at the back of Caloundra Regional Gallery as part of four murals set to adorn the laneways of Caloundra CBD.
