Play in a Day is a drama writing and acting workshop for teens aged 13-17. Create a 10 minute one-act play in a fun-filled 24 hours, then step up and perform your stories to a live audience to win the honour of 'Best Play in a Day'. Join the adventure into a world of performance storytelling.
This workshop program encourages teen participants to explore a range of themes, definitions, cultural assumptions and social issues relating to their own worlds within a theoretical framework. Using a collaborative approach, Play in a Day workshops allow for the development of an individual’s 'creative confidence’ through a series of theatrical exercises focusing on storytelling and skills development.
Designed and facilitated by acting and script coaches, Tania Nash and Toni Wills, the workshops guide participants through a series of base building exercises before the focus is shifted to group work and onto writing, rehearsing, directing and performing their work. Experienced professional actors and playwrights are invited in as guests to the workshop to provide insight and feedback to guide groups and individuals through the creative process. The workshop program is designed to mimic the industry environment by working collaboratively as part of a creative team to an impending deadline.
The 24 hour workshops are fully catered, participants stay over night at the facility and are supervised at all times. At the conclusion of the workshop, parents and friends are invited to watch and enjoy the resulting plays which are judged by an independent theatre professional to determine the winning play.
Note: This workshop is only for children aged 13-17.
