Peripheral Arts is deliveringThe Art of Storytelling and presents a dynamic range of storytelling events throughout the Sunshine Coast Council’s Horizon Festival that will capture local stories of place that engage with a diverse array of artistic mediums that include film, music, dance, performance and photography. The project assimilates precisely with the objective of the festival – ‘to create a platform for the creative voice of the region’. This will be achieved by engaging at a grass roots level with diverse community groups and individuals in the months leading up to the Horizon Festival.

The Art of Storytelling however, will focus on how stories are shared differently within the socio-cultural environment of the Sunshine Coast’s diverse community. In line with the ethos of Peripheral Arts, The Art of Storytelling project is an interdisciplinary process, enabling diversity of voice and community engagement. The project has great potential to evolve and prove fundamental in documenting our history, our sense of self and our region. Without projects like The Art of Storytelling such stories and connections could be lost forever.

Interested locals will have the opportunity to share their stories through events such as Story Slams as well as via community group based presentations. Individual and group-led storytellers will work with Peripheral Arts and its affiliated local creative networks and artists to reimagine and recreate their story via other artistic mediums. The Art of Storytelling event will be a refined and professionally captured performance of ‘stories and art’ presented throughout the festival as part of the Sunshine Coast Council’s travelling Arts Pod inflatable lounge. A number of cinematically-captured displays of local stories will also be presented via the Pod in key festival sites across the Sunshine Coast throughout the festival week 2nd September – 11th September 2016.

Please go to the Peripheral Arts website, www.peripheralarts.com.au for further information about The Art of Storytelling and to register interest in participating in the Story Slam events.
