ART IN PLACE - SUBMISSIONS CLOSED

Horizon is inviting submissions from artists or groups of artists to develop and present new work as part of Art in Place, a focus-area for the Horizon Festival in 2018.

Artists are influenced and inspired by the place they live and the stories embedded there. The Sunshine Coast has a diverse and inspiring landscape, from rich natural assets of coast and hinterland to unique townships and urban spaces and iconic tourist attractions. Landscape and environment are integral to the identity of the people and values of this region.

Through Art in Place, Horizon invites artists from all creative practices and disciplines to explore their relationship to the natural or urban landscape and the dialogue between art and place. We welcome applications across a broad range of art forms including but not limited to visual art, sonic works, performance, nature or text based works and installation.

We seek conceptual and contemporary approaches to creating and sharing artwork that is relevant and responsive to site and considers the dialogue and experience of the viewer or participant. The works could be held in one precinct or at locations across the Sunshine Coast. While it is expected that artworks will be ephemeral or temporary in nature, the works should have a presence for the duration of the 10 day Festival.

We strongly encourage Art in Place applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

 

Funding & Application Process

Submissions will be eligible for up to $8,000 of financial support for production and presentation of work. While artists may choose to seek further funding for their project, the proposed work should not be reliant on additional funding and must be deliverable within the $8,000 budget allocation.

Shortlisted artists will be invited to meet with a panel of Horizon team members and professional peers to further discuss their submission and assess the suitability of their work for inclusion in the Festival. This will take place in late February 2018.

Art in Place is funded in partnership with Arts Queensland through the Regional Arts Development Fund and other partners.

Submissions will be assessed based on the following considerations:

  • Artistic merit of concept
  • Viability of the work proposed
  • How well the project responds to the Art in Place brief
  • Significance of location or site and strength of relevance to place
  • Quality of previous work

Artists will be required to provide the following information for their submission:

  • Artist statement
  • Project outline - title and summary of work
  • A brief overview of artists, organisation or group applying
  • Proposed location and evidence of permission to occupy
  • Marketing attributes and approach
  • Project timeline or itinerary
  • Duration and accessibility of work
  • Projected budget
  • Production and operational requirements
  • Supporting material as relevant to project including examples of your work, bios of additional artists and letters of support from participants or communities.
