Horizon might have wrapped up for 2019, but there are still plenty of great arts events to experience across the Coast. Here's our wrap-up of what to check out over the next fortnight.

23 September-3 October: Waste to Art - Children's Holiday Program in Tanawha
This workshop series is about our capacity to re-think and be creative with the materials at our ‘disposal’. This program will challenge and inspire children and young people. They will make beautiful, useful and playful things from everyday discards.

2 October: Spring into Sustainability - A Changemakers Lunch at Venue 114, Bokarina
Join Natalie Isaacs and other Sunshine Coast business leaders and change makers. Come and connect, be inspired and join the conversation. In Every Woman’s Guide to Saving the Planet, Natalie shares her journey from climate bystander to international campaigner. Now the founder and CEO of the globally recognised climate action organisation 1 Million Women, Natalie shares her tips and insight into making a difference.

3-6 October: Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival in Gympie
Over four days Heart of Gold will screen more than 130 short films from all genres, alongside an exciting extras program of workshops, family activities, free events and filmmaker discussions to delight filmmakers, film lovers and local audiences.

4 October: Nights on Ocean
Nights on Ocean returns to Ocean Street. bringing with it a smorgasbord of international street food vendors, handcrafted goods and live music.

4 October: Karrie Hayward at Solbar
When you blend the rich, soulful vocal tones with the vibrant, percussive timbre of a guitar, you get Karrie Hayward – practically music when it meets the ocean.

4-6 October: Coolum Art Collective Art Exhibition 
This is a twice yearly event where a select group of Sunshine Coast artists come together to offer their works for sale direct to the public. The exhibition displays a diverse collection of works in a range of media including watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastels and mixed media, in a range of styles, along with some special craft pieces. The show is over 3 days and provides collectors and art lovers an opportunity to grab a piece of quality work at a bargain price.

4-6 October: Fibre Arts Festival in Yandina
A celebration of fibre arts! Join and learn from some of Australia and NZ's best fibre artists in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

4-7 October: Caloundra Music Festival
Enjoy four days of Sun, Surf and Soul at the beautiful Kings Beach on the Sunshine Coast! The 13th annual Caloundra Music Festival will be held over the October long weekend. The beautiful Kings Beach and surrounds will come alive to the sounds of a diverse line-up of entertainment featuring the best of the Australian music industry as well as incredible international artists.

5 October: Sunshine Coast Collective Markets at Alexandra Headland
Sunshine Coast Collective Markets isn’t just your average market, it is a collective of local Sunshine Coast designers, musicians, artists, foodies, creators, vintage wares and lifestyle lovers. The intention of the market is to create a true ‘local’ market which showcases to the community and visitors the amazing talent we have here on the Sunshine Coast. Those visiting will enjoy the relaxed Sunday vibe, amazing coffee, to die for street food, a carefully edited line up of stalls, live music from local musicians and even a mobile hairdresser in a vintage caravan!

5 October: Ceramic Handbuilding at Coolum Women's Shed
Do you yearn to play with clay? Join Bree from Mudita Ceramics and the Syndicate Creative for 2 delightful afternoons of handbuilt pottery. In this introductory workshop Bree will guide you though the process of making ring dishes. These delightful little dishes can have many uses - salt and pepper dishes, key holders, jewellery dishes - whatever you want them to be.

5 October: Mooloolaba Street Fest
Grab your friends and family for a fun filled night of entertainment and activities, feast on some great street food and shop for fantastic locally made products.

9 October: Money For Art - Professional Development Series
Money for Art is the first of four sessions in a professional development series council has curated for artists. Come along and find out about funding, sponsorship, partnerships from national leaders and how to strengthen your applications, EOIs and proposals funding.

10 October: The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase at The J, Noosa
The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase Tour will be tearing up the freeways of Australia for the seventh year in a row to bring the crème de la crème of the 2019 Festival to Noosa! Expertly curated and lovingly presented, the Showcase will feature some of the Festival’s hottest acts live on stage for an incredible two hours of hard-hitting laughter. Boasting a line-up of veteran favourites, international stars, and some of the freshest emerging talents, this jam-packed night of pure entertainment will leave you sore from belly laughs!

10 October: Sub Tropic Studio Housewarming
Sub Tropic Studio arrives at Caloundra Bus Terminal! Join them for the launch of their lightbox gallery, artist studios, letterpress & workshop space. Includes exhibition with Creative Spaces artist in residence, Paper Amy, Summer program launch and open studios with Karina Sharpe, Jake Moss and Alt Monday.

11 October: Mufassa at Solbar
Cool, calm & connected is the best way to describe these smooth coastal groovers. Their unique blend of roots-dub-reggae is fresh, dreamy and full of colour.

11-12 October: Noosa Surf Film Festival
Noosa Surf Film Festival is an independent film festival celebrating film and surf culture.

 

12 October: Mardi Wilson at Solbar
A raw and authentic one person show, Mardi Wilson is a Brisbane based musician, making waves in the industry with her unique Surf Folk style and emotive lyrics. 

12 October: Guru Life Garden Party with OKA
OKA know how to throw a backyard party, that’s what they do best! Escaping the flashing lights of the world wide festival circuit - OKA come home for another spring time smasher.

12-27 October: Floating Land in Noosa
Floating Land: point to point marks the 10th iteration of one of Noosa’s most significant and iconic cultural events. Conceived in 2001 as a biennial outdoor sculptural program, Floating Land: point to point will have a presence across two key anchor sites in 2019 – Boreen Point and Noosa National Park. From the serene shores of Lake Cootharaba at Boreen Point to the rocky outcrops of Noosa National Park – and several spaces in between – visitors will be invited to experience thoughtful, challenging and environmentally aware works that engage sensitively with these special and spectacular spaces.

13 October: Peregian Originals in Peregian 
The Peregian Originals are a community funded music event series that run on the second Sunday of every month at Peregian Beach Park. The Originals are an all ages event, family friendly and promote good vibes, good times and great music!
