At a time of uncertainty, BARKAA’s debut proved to be the shake-up the Australian music scene needed.
Taking her first steps forward as an artist releasing music in 2020, BARKAA served an introduction with impact – an artistic vision and handle on storytelling that was unshakably confident and honest.
In a short period of time, the Malyangapa, Barkindji woman became one of Australia’s most exciting new hip-hop artists – her voice balancing unbridled passion with an aggression the industry had previously side-stepped with care. BARKAA’s impact from the start established her as not just an artist to watch, but one to immediately respect and expect more from.
In 2025, BARKAA is set to embark on the next phase of her creative journey. With the power and spirit of her ancestors innately connected to her own ambition and drive, BARKAA re-emerges into the spotlight with new fervour and inspirations to pour into her craft. Don’t miss out.
BARKAA will be supported by Tjaka.
Tjaka
Having played Splendour in the Grass, Dark Mofo, BIGSOUND, and in front of 30,000 people at Taiwan's PASIWALI Festival, Tjaka have proved to be a must see act whenever, and wherever they play.
Brothers Geoff and Jake Fabila are descendants of the Jabirr Jabirr tribe in the WA Kimberley and, joined by best mate Felix Fogarty, this Brisbane/Meanjin-based trio fuse electronic beats and lava-hot rap flow, which melt audiences in a crucible of funk, reggae, and dance.
Tjaka's high-energy bangers introduce the use of Didjeribone (a slide didgeridoo, similar to a trombone), ripping guitar solos, and the deep sounds of the FaceBass to create a contemporary Indigenous experience like no other.
