The Jo Lloyd Workshop & Long Table Forum presents a unique opportunity for South-East Queensland dance, movement artists and choreographers to work with Jo Lloyd’s distinct choreographic methodologies, connecting the imagination with the physical.
This stimulating two-hour workshop will involve Jo’s progressive warm-up, where detailed verbal propositions initiate improvised explorations to prepare the body. Following this, Jo will share her choreographic methods to generate and collect movement, working with spontaneity and ‘surrealisation’, as well as teaching choreography from her current work.
The workshop will enable participants to access varied movement states, individual patterns, negotiations and tendencies, and gain information from perceiving one another. It asks, What do we need to know in order to do/perform the dance? How do you form the unresolved dance?
Suited to dancers with some training/experience – including recent graduates, current students and trained dancers. Jo welcomes dancers from many styles including but not limited to classical, contemporary, hip hip, circus, cabaret, impro and traditional styles.
This workshop offers dancers an opportunity to experience Jo’s choreographic and performative approaches with the view to opportunities for a new commissioned work for future festivals.
Long Table Forum
Following the workshop you are invited to stay for a one-hour interactive long table discussion exploring independent dance making in Australia. Jo will be joined by Jenni Large – independent dance maker based in Tasmania, Michael Smith – dancer with Dancenorth, Townsville and members of The Farm from Gold Coast/Berlin.
Light refreshments will be served.
Workshop applications are now closed and tickets fully allocated.
Registrations for the panel talk are still open - the register button takes you to the panel talk ticketing link.

About the Artist
Jo Lloyd is a dance artist working with choreography as a social encounter. She has presented and performed her work in gallery spaces and theatres both nationally and internationally; in Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, RISING, Liveworks, Bundanon, NGA, NGV, Mona Foma, MCA and PICA. Her practice seeks to find a language that refuses the limits of history, culture, form and aesthetic. Lloyd choreographs the peculiarities of the ever-racing mind, which manifests in unconventional ways through the body. She forms choreographies out of distorted communications, diverse physical languages and interactions between the dancer and the viewer.
